Short-Term Orthodontics for Adults

Many adults want orthodontics to achieve a straight, beautiful smile, but the idea of years of treatment is not appealing. At Scott Family Dental, we offer our adult patients the option of short-term orthodontics to address the problem of crooked teeth that can make you feel self-conscious about your smile.

Short-Term Orthodontics for Adults

Many adults shy away from the idea of traditional orthodontics, but with our short-term orthodontic care, you can have a dramatically improved smile in just 6 to 10 months, on average!

Because most adults would like to avoid a mouth full of metal, we offer clear brackets and wires to make your treatment more discreet. Since treatment times are short, you will not have to worry about fitting years of orthodontic treatment into your life. Some of the alignment problems we can address include:

  • Overlapping teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps in your smile
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Overcrowding

Short-term orthodontics doesn’t work for every case, but it provides many of our patients with a convenient option to obtain a straight, beautiful smile.

How Short-Term Orthodontics Works

Dr. Jessie Scott will attach clear brackets to your teeth and then add a clear memory wire that will apply constant low-force pressure to move your teeth into more esthetic alignment. Because we use a memory wire, your teeth will move more quickly and achieve the best results in just 6 to 10 months. That is a small investment of time for a lifetime of beautiful smiles!

We will schedule regular follow-up exams to ensure that your treatment is on track and your teeth are moving properly. We can make any adjustments necessary to ensure a great outcome!

Caring for your teeth properly during treatment is essential. Twice daily brushing, daily flossing, and regular dental cleanings will help you stay heathy during orthodontic treatment. We can help you with tips to make caring for your teeth easier even with your wires and brackets.

Because this is short-term orthodontics, it is more affordable than long-term treatment, making it more accessible for many of our patients.

Post-Orthodontic Treatment

Once you have your brackets removed from your teeth, it will feel great to have a professional dental cleaning! We can remove the cement and any accumulated stains so that your smile looks its best.

You will also need to wear a retainer to avoid orthodontic relapse. Orthodontic relapse means your teeth begin to drift toward their original location. An orthodontic retainer will hold them in place. Dr. Scott will discuss how many hours a day to wear your retainer. Eventually, you will be able to switch to wearing it at night.
